Protect vulnerable communities with additional funding for hate crime prevention

The Liberal Party intends to increase funding for programs that help vulnerable communities prevent hate crimes, such as boosting the Canada Community Security Program which provides security funding to at-risk groups. The party also plans to criminalize obstruction or intimidation at protected sites such as places of worship, schools and community centres.

They are also providing $10 million in additional, one-time funding to the Community Resilience Fund, which helps community groups with security services and recognizing early signs of extremism. This comes as police-reported hate crimes in Canada increased by 32% in 2023.
