As part of their platform commitments, The Liberal party has planned to investigate a new voting system in time for national elections in 2019. They plan on consulting with all parties, experts and Canadian citizens to determine the best reform in order to produce fairer election results.

The Liberal party has promised to complete the consultation phase within the first 12 months of being elected, and have specifically mentioned investigating “a preferential ballot and/or a form of proportional representation, to represent Canadians more fairly and serve Canada better.”
